The HercOPEN is the first (annual) speed hiking competition up at Sugarbush Mountain in VT. In a land far, far away- where Green Mountain Stage race will be in a few weeks. I didn't get a chance to bike or see the course, but the area is fantastic - but the hills worry me!
Ok there was this monumental challenge that I signed myself up for.. a speed hiking competition where the top guys were probably going to run the entire thing. My goal I set out with on Friday was to complete the task at hand. 16 miles of hiking in what looked to be about ~5,000 vertical feet of climbing and equal descending.
Shortly after arriving my hopes of winning any prizes were easily shattered. The prize purse was 25,000 dollars! 5,000 for the top finisher under 132 lbs and same for over. Needless to say there were plenty of skinny road racer folk arriving and I was a fish out of water.

While I was out there running, someone asked if I was going to do a marathon. Are you nuts? Well, I consider this my own personal marathon... Perhaps my arm can be twisted at some point.
