You're at least a minute or two in front of your closest competitor, your tire goes flat. Do you really have time to change that tire when the course is mostly downhill for the remaining 3 miles? That is the question I was faced with yesterday. I chose to ride it until the tire came off the rim and wrapped itself amongst the rear cassette. The inner tube did a nice job of sticking in between all the cogs too. Now that the wheel was incapacitated I had to change it. Try as I might, the tire wouldn't stay seated as it had been deformed/stretched while I abused it. I slung the tire and two tubes around my neck and had to run the remaining ~2miles. The IF guy came upon me with a broken chain and was able to coast down hills, taking the victory in my class- doh! Any smooth dirt section I could ride I got back on the bare rim and rode it to smitherines.
There really isn't anything left to prove in the Sport class. I would love to goto Grillz and race expert- for the fun of it. I will have to check the standings and see if the guy in 2nd could swing into victory. If he could then I will be there to defend!
